DKG Group Participates in Study on Stakeholder Views on Microbiome Technology for Sustainable Crop Production
The DKG Group has actively contributed to a scientific study titled “Stakeholder Views on Microbiome Technology for Sustainable Crop Production.”
Representing the group’s perspective and long-standing involvement in the biostimulants sector, DKG Group Co-Founder Mr. Christos D. Katsanos participated as an expert stakeholder in interactive WUR Online Group Study sessions held on September 25, 2025, and April 20, 2026. He also conducted an in-person visit to the Wageningen University facilities on September 18, 2025, to meet with researcher Sofia Leonti.
About the Study
The purpose of this research is to gather insights from key stakeholders on the application of microbiome technology as a sustainable alternative to chemical pesticides. By harnessing the natural benefits of soil microbiota, the industry aims to develop “biologicals”, non-chemical protectants that defend crops against pathogenic microorganisms.
This study is part of the broader project, “Precision Medicine for Agriculture: Harnessing Peptide-Producing Microbiota for Sustainable Crop Protection.”
The research initiative is led by an international consortium of five universities:
Wageningen University & Research
Leiden University
Tilburg University
University Medical Center Groningen
ETH Zürich
Representing the Biostimulants Sector
During the 90-minute digital workshop sessions, Mr. Katsanos engaged with other sector representatives to share the DKG Group’s views, expectations, and concerns regarding how microbiome technology can be successfully implemented in practical, modern agriculture.
Our participation ensures that the practical experience and technical insights of the biostimulants sector directly inform European research efforts toward sustainable crop cultivation.
